Opportunity Overview
The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), in collaboration with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), is launching a Digitization Programme for 2026/2027. This initiative forms part of the seventh Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP7), designed to create opportunities for South African graduates and unemployed youth.
This programme aims to recruit talented individuals to assist with a vital digitisation project for the National Archives and Records Services of South Africa (NARSSA) and its Provincial Archives. The project is scheduled to commence on August 24, 2026, offering roles across all nine provinces of South Africa, as well as at the National Archives and Records Service in Pretoria.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Assistant Archivist positions, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be aged 35 years or younger.
- Hold a Diploma or Degree in one of the following fields:
- Archival Studies
- Information Science
- Records Management
- Film Studies
- Sound Engineering
- Archives and Records Management (including Post Graduate Diploma)
- Heritage Studies
- Information Communication Technology (ICT)
- Note: Specific qualification requirements may vary slightly depending on the provincial location and role.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates for the Assistant Archivist roles may be involved in a range of duties, including:
