Opportunity Overview
The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is committed to providing timely and equitable assistance to individuals affected by motor vehicle accidents. They offer social benefits to ensure financial relief and support recovery for qualifying individuals across South Africa.
This 18-month internship programme is designed to foster youth skills development by providing unemployed graduates with the opportunity to gain valuable work-based experience within the medical management field. This specific role is located in Cape Town and is an Employment Equity targeted position, with preference given to People with Disabilities.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Between 18 and 25 years of age.
- Unemployed, never previously employed, and have never participated in an internship programme related to their qualification.
- Possess a certified copy of a Grade 12 / Matric certificate (NQF 4 level certificate).
- Hold a B degree or Diploma in Public/Business Administration, Health/Social Sciences, or any Medical-related qualification.
- Where applicable, provide a certified copy of a Registration certificate with the relevant regulatory body.
- Submit a certified copy of your ID.
- Submit a certified copy of your Academic transcript.
- Provide a comprehensive CV and a motivational letter.
- Only the first 100 CVs received will be considered for this position.
Key Responsibilities
During the internship, you will gain practical experience and provide support in various medical management functions, including:
- Undertaking Officer Functions: Supporting or executing invoice payment processes, including manual payments on MIS and VMS systems, Trustees and Curator fees processes, and Caregiver payment processes.
- Bill Review Functions: Assisting with summarising medico-legal documents, drafting treatment plans, preparing pre-authorisation assessments, managing supplier claim processes, assessing invoices, and communicating outcomes with team members.
- Medical Management Consultant Functions: Supporting or performing injury assessments (including AMA Guides Assessments), drafting injury assessment reports, and preparing undertakings and Basket of Care (BOC).
- Case Management Functions: Providing supportive roles in Field Case Management, Hospital Case Management, and Fleet management processes.

What an internship actually is
An internship is a fixed-term work-experience placement for someone who already holds a qualification.
