Opportunity Overview

Rhodes University, located in Makhanda, Eastern Cape, invites applications for a permanent Remuneration and Benefits Officer position within its People and Culture Division. This role is integral to supporting the university's human resources functions by ensuring effective management of staff remuneration and benefits.

The successful candidate will join the HR Directorate and Specialists Business Unit, working closely with the Total Rewards Manager and Wellness Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the financial well-being and overall experience of staff members at a respected higher education institution.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates interested in this position must meet the following criteria:

  • A relevant B. Degree at NQF Level 7, which could be in HR or Finance, or a degree that combines HR and Accounting.
  • Approximately 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Previous administrative experience in remuneration and benefits, including handling large volumes of data with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with HR and payroll systems; prior Sage VIP experience is considered advantageous.
  • Extensive experience working with spreadsheets, with advanced Excel skills being essential.
  • A proven track record in analysing, interpreting, interrogating data, and preparing comprehensive reports.
  • Prior experience in staff wellness programmes would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The Remuneration and Benefits Officer will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating closely with the Total Rewards Manager and Wellness Officer.
  • Addressing matters related to staff budgets, remuneration, benefits, and wellness.
  • Scoping and defining requirements for reports.
  • Producing reports that effectively interpret and provide detailed analysis of data.
