The Ombud for Financial Services Providers (FAIS Ombud) is established under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act. The Ombud's offices are located in Pretoria.

This opportunity is part of the FAIS Ombud's Graduate Recruitment Programme, a structured, 12-month initiative designed to cultivate competent new entrants into the labour market. Successful candidates will be appointed as Graduate Trainees within the Client Care Department, gaining valuable exposure and mentorship from experienced professionals.

Minimum Requirements

• South African citizen with a valid South African Identity document.
• Office Administration Diploma (NQF 6).
• Demonstrated passion for public service and a genuine interest in working within the Financial Sector.
• Strong academic background.
• Ability to work effectively in a stressful, target-driven environment.
• Willingness to learn and work extra hours when required.
• Energetic, self-driven, and deadline-driven approach to work.
• Computer literate.
• Preference will be given to black female designated groups and people living with disabilities to advance the office’s Employment Equity targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Registering new complaints received by the office.
• Assessing whether a complaint falls within the jurisdiction of the FAIS Act or FSOS Act.
• Assisting and guiding complainants regarding the jurisdiction of their complaint.
• Extracting the essential information from provided complaint details and requesting additional information when necessary.
• Referring complaints that do not fall within the FAIS Act and FSOS Act jurisdiction to other relevant entities.
• Liaising effectively with both complainants and financial service providers.

What the Work Involves

As a Client Care Graduate Trainee, you will be at the forefront of the FAIS Ombud's mandate, working in a target-driven environment focused on resolving complaints from the public against financial service providers. Your daily tasks will involve managing the intake of new complaints, critically assessing their adherence to legal jurisdiction, and meticulously gathering all necessary information to move cases towards resolution. You will be a key point of contact, communicating directly with complainants and financial service providers.

You will work as part of a dedicated team, collaborating with experienced lawyers, financial planners, investigators, and negotiators. The role provides hands-on experience in navigating the complexities of financial services complaints within an established statutory office located in Pretoria.
