Opportunity Overview
The Northern Cape Office of the Premier is inviting applications for various vacancies within their department. These opportunities are part of their commitment to providing equal opportunities and practicing affirmative action employment, with an intention to promote equity through the fulfilment of all numeric targets in their Employment Equity Plan.
The Office actively encourages applications from females and people with disabilities, aligning with their employment equity targets to enhance diversity within their workforce. Applicants for Senior Management Service (SMS) posts will also need to complete specific pre-entry assessments and a nationally endorsed online programme.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for these vacancies, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Application Form: Submit the approved New Amended Z83 Form (effective from 01 January 2021). This form must be signed, initialled, and dated, with Part A fully completed. Parts B, C, D, E, F, and G may be left blank or marked as not applicable if the attached CV provides the required information. However, the question related to conditions preventing re-appointment under Part F is compulsory for those seeking re-employment into the Public Service.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Provide a detailed CV clearly outlining positions held, periods in each position, and key responsibilities. Include three contactable referees.
- Foreign Qualifications: If you possess foreign qualifications, it is your responsibility to have them evaluated by SAQA and provide proof of such evaluation report, but only when you are shortlisted.
- Equity Targets: Preference will be given to females. Women and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
- SMS Specific Requirement (Prior to Appointment): Candidates appointed to Senior Management Service (SMS) posts will be required to complete the Nyukela Programme: Pre-entry Certificate to Senior Management Services. This is an online course endorsed by the National School of Government (NSG).

What this kind of post involves
A permanent post is ongoing employment with no end date, carrying full benefits and, in the public service, a defined salary level with annual notch progression. These are advertised competitively and the selection process is considerably more formal than for programme placements.
How the selection usually runs
- Applications are screened against the stated minimum requirements first, mechanically — not meeting one is fatal regardless of the rest of your application.
- Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by a panel, and for many posts a competency assessment or practical exercise follows.
- Verification of qualifications, criminal record and references happens before an offer, and it is a common point of delay.
What you leave with
Ongoing employment with benefits, and in government a position on a salary scale with a defined progression path.
Where this leads next
Notch progression within your level
Satisfactory annual performance assessment.
The next salary level up
Competing for an advertised post at that level — levels are attached to posts, not to people.
Supervisory or management post
Experience at the level below, plus the qualification the higher post specifies.
A typical route, not a guarantee — progression depends on vacancies, funding and your own performance.
Watch out for this
The screening is mechanical and happens before anyone reads your CV: the advert’s own application instructions are applied as written, and an incomplete or unsigned form is discarded whatever the rest of the application says.
