Nedbank is offering a one-year fixed-term Behavioural Economics Graduate Programme based in Sandton, Johannesburg. This programme provides a unique opportunity to apply behavioural science principles within one of South Africa’s leading banks.
You will join a team dedicated to using behavioural science to simplify money management and create tangible value by fostering positive behaviour change. Minimum Requirements
- Be 18 years old or above.
- Possess a clear criminal and credit record.
- Be passionate about behavioural economics and behavioural science.
- A Master’s Degree in economics, psychology, anthropology, or a related social sciences field is advantageous.
- Note for psychology graduates: If you intend to register with the HPCSA, you will need to complete your own tailored registration programme.

Key Responsibilities
- Use behavioural science to identify friction points and improve client journeys, including digital interactions, onboarding processes, and product engagement.
- Assist in uncovering drivers of customer behaviour and explore how behavioural science combined with AI can create personalised and engaging customer experiences.
- Help design and test communication messages across channels like SMS, email, call centres, and apps to guide clients towards better decisions and outcomes.
- Explore how behavioural, contextual, and customer information can be used to understand diverse needs and design more relevant interventions.
- Contribute to projects that apply behavioural insights to areas such as employee performance, wellbeing, leadership, and organisational culture.
- Collaborate with teams to apply behavioural principles to customer value propositions, products, and digital experiences, participating in practical innovation challenges.
- Help translate research evidence and project learnings into useful tools, case studies, workshops, and resources for teams across Nedbank.
What the Work Involves
Based in a dynamic office environment at 135 Rivonia Road, Sandown, in Sandton, Johannesburg, you will be deeply involved in applying behavioural science to real-world business and client challenges. Day-to-day, you will be engaged in hands-on project work, conducting behavioural research, analysing data, designing interventions, and developing communications.
You will work alongside a team of behavioural economists, contributing to various initiatives aimed at improving client journeys, developing more tailored solutions, and enhancing internal employee programmes. This role requires collaboration with specialists from different business units, turning evidence into practical improvements for clients and employees.
