Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) Apprenticeships Vacancy 2026

Opportunity Overview

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) invites eligible young South Africans to apply for its Apprenticeship Programme. This three-year initiative is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required to qualify as Artisans in various essential trades.

The programme primarily targets unemployed youth who have obtained relevant qualifications from TVET colleges and other accredited training institutions. While not exclusively limited, MISA particularly encourages applications from historically disadvantaged individuals. Successful applicants will join a cohort scheduled to commence training during the 2026/2027 financial year, with placements available at various host municipalities across the country.

Minimum Requirements

MISA is looking for candidates interested in the following trades. Applicants are advised to clearly indicate the name of the municipality they prefer for placement during their learning period. A list of MISA-identified host municipalities is available on the MISA/COGTA website.

Electrical Apprenticeship

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering (four subjects) with relevant trade theory, including Industrial Electronics, Mathematics, and a fourth subject relevant for the required trade.
• OR Technical trade theory programmes quality assured by a SETA deemed equivalent to NQF Level 3.
• OR Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3.
• OR Technical Grade 11 with Maths, Science, language, and a related theory subject.
• OR Relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S, and N stream).

Plumbing Apprenticeship

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering (four subjects) with relevant trade theory, including Industrial Electronics, Mathematics, and a fourth subject relevant for the required trade.
• OR Technical trade theory programmes quality assured by a SETA deemed equivalent to NQF Level 3.
• OR Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3.
• OR Technical Grade 11 with Maths, Science, language, and a related theory subject.
• OR Relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S, and N stream).

Bricklaying Apprenticeship

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering (four subjects) with relevant trade theory, including Industrial Electronics, Mathematics, and a fourth subject relevant for the required trade.
• OR Technical trade theory programmes quality assured by a SETA deemed equivalent to NQF Level 3.
• OR Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3.
• OR Technical Grade 11 with Maths, Science, language, and a related theory subject.
• OR Relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S, and N stream).

Motor Mechanic Apprenticeship

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering (four subjects) with relevant trade theory, including Industrial Electronics, Mathematics, and a fourth subject relevant for the required trade.
• OR Technical trade theory programmes quality assured by a SETA deemed equivalent to NQF Level 3.
• OR Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3.
• OR Technical Grade 11 with Maths, Science, language, and a related theory subject.
• OR Relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S, and N stream).

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in structured on-the-job training at a host municipality.
• Attend off-the-job training sessions.
• Engage in learning activities aimed at achieving Artisan qualification.

What the Work Involves

This Apprenticeship will involve a blend of practical experience and theoretical learning. Apprentices will spend time working directly within targeted host municipalities, gaining hands-on experience relevant to their chosen trade. This practical work will be complemented by structured off-the-job training, which could involve classroom instruction or workshop-based learning, all contributing to the journey of becoming a qualified Artisan.
