Opportunity Overview

The Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA (merSETA) funds boilermaker apprenticeships with host employers across the East Rand, leading to a nationally recognised artisan trade.

This apprenticeship is based in Germiston, Gauteng (Gauteng) and falls under the merSETA — Manufacturing, Engineering & Related Services, leading to a NQF Level 4 qualification. A monthly stipend is provided: R5 000 – R6 500 / month.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum qualification: Grade 12 / Matric
• South African citizen with a valid ID
• Aged 18–35 (youth programme)
• Currently unemployed and not on another funded programme
• Clear criminal record
• Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science (50%+)
• Good colour vision (tested)

Key Responsibilities

During this apprenticeship you will:

• Reading engineering drawings and marking out steel
• Cutting, bending and welding plate and structural sections
• Fabricating and assembling pressure vessels and tanks
• Performing dimensional and visual quality checks
• Completing N-courses and logbook hours toward the Trade Test

Stipend & Benefits

Successful candidates receive a monthly stipend of R5 000 – R6 500 / month for the duration of the programme, on-the-job mentorship, and a nationally recognised NQF Level 4 qualification on successful completion. On completion you will be eligible to write the relevant Trade Test to qualify as an artisan.
