Opportunity Overview

The HPCSA is looking for a Complaints Officer to join their team. This is a two-year fixed-term contract position, playing a crucial role in managing public feedback and ensuring accountability within the health sector.

The successful candidate will receive a remuneration package of R483,192 per annum (Cost to Council).

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this Complaints Officer role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • An NQF Level 6 qualification in a health-related field.
  • Current registration with a Health Statutory Body/Council.
  • At least 2 years of experience in handling complaints.
  • Knowledge of the relevant legislative framework.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including writing, verbal, and listening.
  • General complaints handling skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict effectively.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

The Complaints Officer will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

  • Handling all queries related to complaints.
  • Creating and maintaining records of queries on the case management system.
  • Determining if a complaint falls within the HPCSA's remit.
  • Providing advice on lodging complaints, including referring cases to the appropriate authority if outside HPCSA's remit.
  • Advising on the complaint lodging process if within HPCSA's remit.
  • Receiving and screening complaints submitted verbally, in writing, or during physical visits.
  • Ensuring complaint forms are fully completed and signed, with all relevant documents attached, before processing.
  • Verifying that descriptions of allegations are clear.
  • Checking for previously registered complaints and processing new ones accordingly.
  • Contacting complainants to gather additional information when necessary.
  • Requesting affidavits from complainants as required.
  • Alerting management to complaints where a practitioner may pose a danger to the public.
  • Collating data for reporting purposes.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on complaints received.
  • Performing ad-hoc duties as requested by the Head of Division: Complaints Handling and Investigations.
