Opportunity Overview

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Deputy Director: Performance Management. This position is based in Pretoria and offers a competitive annual stipend of R932,292.

This opportunity involves playing a crucial role in managing and facilitating the department's Performance Management and Development System (PMDS) processes. The successful candidate will ensure quality assurance, administer moderation, and support the implementation of incentive frameworks, contributing significantly to the department's operational efficiency and human resource development.

Minimum Requirements

  • A National Diploma (NQF6) in Human Resource Management or a relevant qualification recognised by SAQA.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Human Resource Management, specifically with reference to Performance Management.
  • Of the above experience, three (3) years must be at an entry or junior managerial level (Assistant Director level or equivalent).
  • Computer literacy, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, MS Forms, OneDrive, MS Teams, and Word.
  • Knowledge of the SMS handbook, Public Service Regulation (as amended), Public Service Act (as amended), Collective Agreements, DPSA directives, and other Human Resource Prescripts.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and project management.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience with the PERSAL system.
  • Knowledge of Financial Administration skills.

  • Ensure quality assurance of SMS and non-SMS Performance Agreements, Mid-term assessments, Annual assessments, and probation reports.
  • Administer SMS and non-SMS moderation processes, manage databases, oversee implementations on PERSAL, and appoint relevant committees.
  • Effectively facilitate the implementation of the incentive framework and collective agreements, including OSD and non-OSD.
  • Ensure that awareness and training sessions on PMDS are conducted.
  • Manage the administration of the PMDS online system and other digital platforms.
  • Ensure accurate data capturing, reporting, and provide reports to Management.
  • Manage dispute resolution or disagreement processes emanating from Performance Agreements, Mid-term assessment, Annual assessment, and probation reports.
  • Provide technical advice to stakeholders and management.
