Opportunity Overview
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Deputy Director: International Coordination Support, based in Pretoria. This position offers a chance to play a key role in managing the Department's international engagements and administrative functions.
This role involves acting as a crucial link for international cooperation, managing communication, information flow, and providing comprehensive support for South African delegations participating in global discussions and agreements. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth coordination of the Department’s international activities and travel programmes.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A National Diploma (NQF6) in Public Management/Administration/Business Administration or a relevant qualification as recognised by SAQA.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the related field.
- Three (3) years of this experience must be at an entry or junior managerial level (Assistant Director level or equivalent).
- Knowledge of international relations and diplomacy.
- Good command of written and oral English, along with any other official language.
- Familiarity with strategic coordination/planning, business planning, report writing, professional writing, and policy development.
- Understanding of business process management, organizational structures, performance management, risk management, and audit procedures.
- Knowledge of project management principles.
- A good understanding of administrative procedures and quality control of documents.
- Knowledge of government policies and legislation such as PAJA, PAIA, PFMA, and other financial management prescripts.
- Possess strong planning and organizing skills, facilitation skills, communication skills, technical writing skills, and interpersonal relations.
- Computer literacy is essential.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at various levels.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive approach to meeting deadlines and delivering results with limited supervision.
- A strong sense of responsibility and loyalty.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the provision of Departmental international focal point administration, communication, information management, and dissemination for international cooperation.
- Providing international focal point services for Multi-lateral Agreements and other international conventions.
- Managing and disseminating international cooperation information.
- Providing delegation support for international engagements, including overseeing logistical arrangements for South African delegations.
- Managing the coordination and administration of international travel programmes for the Department.
- Ensuring general support services for the Chief Directorate.
- Managing the Chief Directorate’s inputs into the development of the Branch Annual Performance Plan (APP).
- Facilitating the submission of Performance Management and Development System (PMDS) documents for officials within the Chief Directorate and ensuring compliance.
- Monitoring and providing oversight into the Chief Directorate’s financial expenditure.
- Providing procurement support services for the Chief Directorate.
- Coordinating and supporting international projects and their implementation.
