Opportunity Overview

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) invites applications for the position of Deputy Director: Ethics and Fraud Prevention. This role is based in Pretoria and is critical for maintaining integrity within the department.

This is an opportunity to contribute to good governance by leading initiatives to prevent and combat fraud and corruption. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and implementing robust fraud management frameworks.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Forensic Investigations, Auditing, Law, Risk Management, or a relevant qualification as recognised by SAQA.
• Accreditation or Membership with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) or the Institute of Commercial Forensic Practitioners (ICFP).
• Five (5) years of experience in Forensic Investigation and Fraud Prevention or a relevant field.
• Of the five years, three (3) years must be at an entry/junior managerial level (Assistant Director level or equivalent).
• Technical knowledge in the application of fraud risk management concepts and principles.
• Knowledge and understanding of control, corporate governance, anti-fraud and corruption standards, and risk management standards.
• Familiarity with relevant legislation including PFMA, Treasury Regulations, Public Service Anti-Corruption Strategy, Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, 2004, and Protected Disclosure Act, 2000.
• In-depth knowledge of government operations and the institution's business.
• Understanding of business processes, with experience in initiating, developing, and implementing fraud risk management strategies.
• Good understanding and working knowledge of IT systems.
• Proven investigative skills, including the ability to apply fraud prevention, detection, and consequence management.
• Computer literacy and excellent communication skills (written, verbal, report writing, facilitation, presentation).
• Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and people management skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key duties:

• Conduct investigations into allegations of fraud and corruption.
• Develop and review fraud management frameworks, including fraud risk management and ethics management.
• Provide compliance, advisory, and facilitation support for the Department's ethics management.
