Opportunity Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is offering a vital opportunity for an Assistant Director in UI Operations, based in Polokwane. This is a contract position for three years, playing a crucial role in managing Unemployment Insurance (UI) services within the Limpopo province.

This role is designed for individuals with experience in operations and supervisory capacities, who are ready to contribute to the efficient delivery of essential services. The position offers a remuneration of R605 742 per annum, plus an additional 37% in lieu of benefits.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • An undergraduate qualification at NQF Level 6, recognised by SAQA, in one of the following fields: Operations Management, Public Management or Administration, Business Administration or Management, Administrative Management, Management, Financial Accounting, or Finance.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of overall experience.
  • At least two (2) years of functional experience within an Operations environment.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of: Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA), Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act (UICA), Treasury Regulations, Public Service Act (PSA), Public Service Regulation (PSR), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
  • Skills in: Computer proficiency, Report writing, People management, Time Management, Communication (both verbal and written), Customer Relations, Supervisory skills, and Coaching skills.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating the employer services function across the province.
  • Coordinating the assessment, validation, and adjudication of claims.
  • Facilitating registry services throughout the province.
  • Coordinating local appeals and complaints within the province.
  • Coordinating general support activities.
  • Managing resources allocated to the unit.

What the Work Involves

As an Assistant Director for UI Operations, you will primarily work within the Provincial Office in Polokwane, focusing on the effective administration of Unemployment Insurance services for Limpopo. Your day-to-day work will involve overseeing and streamlining processes related to employer services, including coordinating how claims are assessed, validated, and decided upon.

You will also play a key role in managing the province's UI registry services and handling local appeals and complaints, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently.
