Opportunity Overview

The Department of Defence is inviting applications for the role of Assistant Director: Exports, based in Pretoria. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the critical function of Conventional Arms Control within the department.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the legal and proper movement of conventional arms by processing and administering permit applications. This involves a range of administrative and oversight tasks crucial for compliance and national security.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A minimum of Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent, coupled with a recognised Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Law, Public Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in Arms Control or Administration.
  • Knowledge:
  • Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, and relevant prescripts.
  • Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Batho Pele principles.
  • Minimum Information Security Standards.
  • National Conventional Arms Control.
  • Project Management and Financial Management.
  • Skills:

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Director: Exports will be responsible for:

  • Processing permit applications in accordance with legislative prescripts for the movement of Conventional Arms Control.
  • Administering permit applications.
  • Obtaining approval for the issuing of permits.
  • Administering the processing of export permit applications.
  • Obtaining validation of applications.
  • Furnishing approved permits.
  • Monitoring the re-submission of exports confirmation documents.
