Opportunity Overview

The Department of Defence is inviting applications for an Assistant Director: Administration, serving as a Personal Staff Officer. This vital role is based in Pretoria at the Armscor Building, Erasmuskloof.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a key government department, providing crucial administrative support to the Chief Director Strategic Management within the Defence Policy, Strategy and Planning Division. Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
  • A recognised Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Public Management, Public Administration, Office Management, or a relevant qualification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience in Administration.
  • Knowledge of the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, and relevant prescripts.
  • Familiarity with Departmental policies and procedures, as well as Batho Pele principles.
  • Knowledge of Financial Management, Project Management, and intermediate Strategic Planning concepts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Analytical, innovative, and sound organising and planning skills.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Capability to effectively engage and communicate with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines proactively, and deliver results with limited supervision.
  • Good interpersonal relations, service orientation, integrity, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Chief Director Strategic Management (CDSM) within the Defence Policy, Strategy and Planning Division, performing the following key functions:

  • Plan and arrange visits, meetings, functions, and conferences.
  • Act as a liaison point between the Chief Director and the Chief Directorate.
  • Ensure the quality and control of all staff work submitted to the office of the Chief Director.
  • Control and manage the budget and business plan for the Chief Director’s office.
  • Manage assets and resources within the Chief Director’s office.
