Opportunity Overview

The Department of Defence, specifically its Defence Policy, Strategy and Planning Division, Directorate Conventional Arms Control, is looking for an Administration Officer to join their team in Pretoria. This role is crucial for providing essential secretariat services to the National Conventional Arms Control Committee (NCACC) and other related committees.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this Administration Officer position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent qualification.
  • A recognised National Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF Level 6) in Public Administration, Public Management, Office Management, or a relevant field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience in Arms Control or Administration.
  • Knowledge of relevant Public Sector Policies, Legislation, Regulations, and Acts.
  • Knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures.
  • General understanding of Conventional Arms Control and the Defence Industry.
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal, organising, and planning skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of financial management principles.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Analytical thinking ability.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Commitment to honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct.
  • Highly reliable, intuitive, perceptive, and professional.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in providing Secretariat Service to the National Conventional Arms Control Committee (NCACC), Scrutiny Committee, and other related committees and sub-committees. Key functions include:

  • Assisting in dealing with all documentation from the registry and determining the nature of applicants' requests.
  • Assisting in the preparation of two sets of books for consideration by the NCACC and the Scrutiny Committee.
  • Liaising with members of the NCACC and the Scrutiny Committee.
  • Supporting the maintenance of the NCACC decision records within the IT database.
