Agriculture is seeking dedicated individuals for a Human Resource Practitioner role focusing on Recruitment and Selection. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract position based in Pretoria, Gauteng, with four vacancies available.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be in possession of a Grade 12 certificate.
  • National Diploma in Human Resource Management (NQF 6).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a Recruitment and Selection environment.
  • Knowledge of recruitment and selection prescripts and legislation, human resource transformation, monitoring and evaluation, Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Employment Equity Act, Labour Relations Act, and Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
  • Skills in good communication (verbal and written), interpersonal relations, planning and organising, problem-solving, telephone and email etiquette, presentation and facilitation, report writing, record keeping, people management, monitoring and evaluation, negotiation and conflict resolution, customer focus, and computer literacy.
  • A Valid Driver’s License.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the advertisement of vacant and funded posts.
  • Verify that all required documentation, such as application forms, job descriptions, and employment equity targets, are attached.
  • Draft advertisements in line with approved job profiles and secure line manager sign-off before placement.
  • Submit documents to the advertising section for placement.
  • Provide effective advisory services on recruitment and selection, ensuring adherence to policy and prescripts.
  • Administer the arrangement of shortlistings and interviews, and provide technical advisory services during these processes.
  • Implement recommendations from selection committees and draft appointment submissions for approval.
  • Conduct personnel suitability checks on recommended candidates and issue appointment and regret letters.
  • Provide assistance during recruitment and selection information sessions and respond to related enquiries.
  • Meet with clients on daily operational issues and draft submissions and letters on recruitment and selection matters.
  • Represent the unit at various transformation forums and render secretariat services during shortlistings and interviews.
  • Provide effective interpretation of legislations, policies, and directives, and contribute inputs on policy and procedure amendments.
  • Draft written responses to line functionaries on functional areas to enhance correct implementation of recruitment and selection processes and practices.
  • Follow up on vacancies with a view to reduce the vacancy rate and turnaround time.

What the Work Involves

As a Human Resource Practitioner in Recruitment and Selection, you will be involved in the full lifecycle of hiring within the department. Day-to-day tasks include drafting job advertisements, coordinating with line managers for approvals, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is in order for posts to be advertised. You will be instrumental in the administrative aspects of shortlisting and interviews, providing support and advice to selection committees.

The role requires strong organisational skills as you manage documentation, conduct suitability checks, and handle all official communication related to appointments and regrets. You will work within the Human Resource Administration Directorate, interacting regularly with internal clients, selection committees, and representing the unit at various forums. The work environment is primarily office-based, focused on processes, compliance, and effective communication to fill vacancies.
